Natalie Portman joined the celebrities who supported the Defund The Police movement. This idea is intended to describe a society in which the vast majority of police officers are replaced by social workers specialising in a number of areas, including mental health, internal conflicts, etc. This idea is not meant as a substitute for the police.

On Monday, according to Paige Six, the Oscar-winning actress shared several photos, including a photo of a collapsing police car and a headline explaining her thoughts about movement.

In her position, Portman explained that she was always screaming to release the police because it made her feel safe. Portman says the reason she felt comfortable and safe in her surroundings was because of her privilege as a white woman.

When I first heard that the police were going to dissolve the #Police, I have to admit that my first reaction was fear. All my life I’ve felt safe with the police. But this is the center of my white privilege: The police make me feel safe as a white woman, while my black friends, family and neighbors feel the opposite: The police make them feel bad. And it’s not for nothing. Police are the sixth leading cause of death of black men in this country. These are not isolated incidents. These are templates that are part of the American black polishing system. The reforms have not worked. Minneapolis, where George Floyd was killed, is one of the most advanced police forces in the country with extensive biochemical training. I am grateful to the leadership of @mvmnt4blklives for challenging the status quo. And that reminded us of what the world would have been like if we had invested money to feed people (their education, their health, their environment, their housing) instead of punishing all our money. I have reached the age when, when my instincts make me uncomfortable, I feel that the situation is bad. But at first I felt uncomfortable with the concept because I was wrong. Because the system I’m comfortable with is bad. #defendblacklives #defundthepolice Swipe right to additional resources by @thelacktivists #

As mentioned earlier, the Defand movement began after the death of George Floyd, who was in police custody. The idea is to take money from the police and put it into poor communities of color, especially to improve education, in addition to health services and housing.

To date, the movement has been supported by many celebrities, including The Weekend, Bree Larson, Lizzo, Jane Fonda, America Ferrer and John Legend. All the above organisations have signed petitions calling on the state and local authorities to reduce police funding.

So far, the movement has certainly attracted the attention of the ruling elite and the entertainment industry, but governments and the general public, including the mayor of Minneapolis, have been reluctant to accept the idea.

The Democratic Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, said he supported the idea of changing the attitude of the police towards coloured people, but that he could not bear to take money from the police. I’m not here, Jacob said.

According to The Hill, although Frey was booed by the demonstrators he spoke to, he remained steadfast in his position. Frey went on to say that the public has a right to be disappointed right now.
